Three Act Math Tasks, the brain-child of teacher Dan Meyer, challenge students to analyze real-world situations, make predictions, incorporate new information, and justify their conclusions.  Meyer has kindly published a list of over 80 original Three Act Math Tasks, which cover a wide range of math topics and situations.  While most tasks are aimed at middle school and high school students, the questions posed — such as “How long will it take Twinkie the Jack Russell to pop 100 balloons?” or “How many bottles of Coca-Cola will it take to fill this pool?” — are entertaining and accessible for younger students as well. Check it out for a fresh and fun math conversation starter!
