O, how I love to follow the child!  My four-year-old discovered that his legs are long enough to walk the stairs two steps at a time.   I labeled the steps with numbers and instantly, naturally, he is counting by twos and distinguishing even numbers from odds.  We are also using this little set up to help our two-year-old build his math savvy.  He loves to count but is in the stage where “counting” is simply reciting numbers.  Now every time he goes up the stairs, he reinforces the connection between the numbers and their numerals. Next I’m thinking we’ll use them for some addition and subtraction.  And they’re in spectral order because why not learn that, too?

What else could you do with a numbered flight of stairs??  Share your ideas in the comments!
