Every now and then, I stumble on a resource that is such an absolute goldmine, I can’t wait another minute to share it with you! The Usborne Art Treasury is a collection of fine artworks accompanied not only by an explanation and a brief discussion of the artist but also by a kid-friendly activity to go along with each. Young artists can explore a wide variety of media — from watercolor and pastels to collage, print-making, mosaics, and even aluminum foil sculpture — all while getting a wonderfully inspiring introduction to art and art history.
You could certainly just sit down and read this book cover-to-cover (I did!), but for a more lasting impact, try taking it slowly. My boys are currently taking turns sitting down with it and choosing an artwork and corresponding project to try. We are loving it!
