If you enjoyed senet, you’ll love the ancient board game we play during our India unit: Snakes and Ladders!!
Actually, if you loved senet, which is a game of skill and strategy, you might HATE snakes and ladders. Cold, capricious, and arbitrary, this game of pure luck will afford your toddler a chance to legitimately beat your teenager — or you! — at something.
Academically, it provides littles an opportunity to practice counting all the way to one hundred and older children a discussion starter about the roles of chance and choice in our lives. I always try to make our India study align with Diwali, and in the Diwali tradition, we play this dice game in hopes that it’ll bring good luck for our new year!
Enjoy!!
