Our kids are big book nerds.  This is partly due to the fact that we’ve been reading to them daily since birth, but it doesn’t hurt that we’re only about thirty seconds from our local library either.  Yes, I’m the mom with the massive library bag and the truly insane list of check-outs and holds on my account.  At our house, we have a table designated for library books so that we don’t lose track of them.

Since our oldest has been an alphabet master for a while now, we’ve been venturing into some more formal reading instruction through the Ron Paul Curriculum and a few other resources.  He was really struggling with blending sounds, so I went on a quest to find some games and activities to help him, and boy, did I stumble on a treasure trove at www.sightwords.com!

In addition to both Dolche and Fry sight word resources, this site provides a comprehensive, research-based curriculum in phonemic awareness — including tons of games and activities, which are a must for my little wild men.

Best part?

It’s absolutely free.

Whether you’re homeschooling or not, if you have any inclination to help your young children start reading, this website will get you on your way!
