We had a perfect day for eclipse viewing in our yard, and while the kids napped inside, my husband, my parents, and I watched the moon gradually covering the sun.  We tried your standard grade school eclipse activities, like making a pinhole projectors and using our official NASA approved glasses.

My husband had an idea that turned out to be pretty genius.  He mounted a camera up on a ladder overlooking the yard in order to record us and our surroundings during totality.  You can’t capture the essence of an eclipse on film, but he definitely captured the atmosphere

As I have thought more about this, I have realized that the whole point of photos and videos is to capture our own memory, our experience of a moment. Anyone can do a Google search and find much better eclipse images taken with much more expensive equipment, but this little video is our unique experience, something we will treasure for a lifetime!
