One of these things is not like the others!! Hubby was checking this sparrow nest on our porch and found a cowbird egg! Cowbirds are obligate brood parasites, meaning the female cowbird will lay her eggs in other birds’ nests. When it hatches, the larger, faster-growing cowbird will bully the smaller birds, preventing them from eating and even pushing them out of the nest. Obviously, when my tender-hearted children learned this, they all voted to adios the invading egg. Not today, cowbird!
