Today I just want to briefly share with you some beautiful Montessori resources I found for free at our local public library.  All four books feature textured pages — very similar to Montessori sandpaper cards for letters and numbers — to encourage children to trace the images with their fingers.  The letter work book is particularly interesting.  Unlike conventional alphabet books, it does not follow alphabetical order, so kids are exposed to the letters out of their familiar sequence.  The letters are also introduced by their sounds instead of their “names.”  Both of these techniques help prepare children for early reading.

I never cease to be impressed with the resources available through our library.  What did you check out this week?
